About the job
Do you want to help students to get the most out of their education? Are you passionate about ensuring that students have an equitable experience and are treated as partners in their education?
We’re looking for an organised and passionate individual to join our Representation Team. The Academic Representation Coordinator will work closely with team members in order to support the delivery of our elections, where our organisation’s leaders are chosen by students, alongside our campaigns and policy work. We’ve previously led national campaigns about tuition fees, through to campaigns about the conditions of graduate teaching assistants.
You’ll be working to support student academic representatives and coordinate the academic representation process at the LSE. We have hundreds of dedicated student academic representatives who want to improve student education at the LSE – you’ll work to register reps from every department across the School, and then devise and deliver training for them. Once the reps are in place, you’ll organise events where they can meet one another, and provide opportunities and advice as the year goes on.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for organising and servicing high level committee meetings involving elected Officers, student academic representatives and School officials. They will also need to build relationships with key stakeholders across the university, and will lead on planning and delivering our annual Teaching Awards which celebrate best practice across the LSE community.
Who we are looking for?
Academic representation is crucial to ensuring that students feel supported and listened to. We’re looking for an individual who is passionate about amplifying the voice of LSE students and ensuring that students are at the heart of everything that the School does.
The post-holder will have excellent organisation skills, and will be able to work collaboratively with colleagues across both the Students’ Union and the School in order to facilitate the academic representation system. We’re looking for someone who can both plan and deliver engaging training to students, and is able to support and motivate student volunteers. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, alongside the ability to work to multiple deadlines and work under their own initiative. They’ll also have strong administrative and analytical skills, and be able to successfully plan and deliver events.
We welcome applications from individuals with a wide variety of backgrounds, including ex-sabbatical officers and even people outside of higher education, provided they can demonstrate relevant transferrable skills.
We particularly welcome applicants from individuals who are marginalised on the basis of their race or ethnicity, and from individuals who define as disabled or neurodivergent.

How we recruit
We want to ensure all systems, policies and processes are free from bias or discrimination and are fair and accessible, therefore we ask that all candidates complete our Application Process in two stages:
Part 1 (Application Form) is all about you telling us about your suitability for the role and will be used to determine if you are shortlisted for interview.
Part 2 (Equal Opportunities Monitoring and Contact Form) is personal information – so we can contact you if you are shortlisted for the interview. It also helps us gather and analyse demographic information about our applicants. This part will only be seen by HR and will not have any impact on shortlisting.
Application forms are formatted to ensure the equality monitoring data is removed before applications are seen by the shortlisting panel. This process allows us to ensure that the shortlisting is done in a fair and consistent manner and all applicants are given the same opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.
