About us

Are you a working-class student at the LSE searching for a safe space? Want to understand what the social mobility problem is and how to help? Need tips for breaking into the world of work? The Social Mobility Society has got you covered!

Social mobility is "the movement of individuals or groups of people within or between social strata in a society". However, all too often, people are unable to attain the positions they deserve because our society is not one that fosters social progression. We as a society believe that no one should be held back by their socio-economic background and so we seek to promote awareness of this issue by partnering with major organisations and charities (e.g. The Bright Network) in order to provide an extended network of voices.

We support students by organising workshops, networking events and highlighting relevant personal development, career and/or volunteering opportunities.

We understand that at times LSE can be very overwhelming and so we also plan to hold various social events including movie nights and well-being activities, encouraging our members to take time for themselves and also have fun!

If this all sounds appealing, then please check out our social media channels and join our society, we can't wait to welcome you!

Membership

Purchasing a membership to our society means you'll be notified of and gain access to all the events that we will be hosting throughout the year. As a member, you'll get the chance to meet loads of students, both within the LSE and at other universities with similar societies, that are equally as friendly and passionate.

Events and Activities

Over the course of the year, we plan to host a wide number of events including:

  • Career advice sessions
  • Socials (movie nights, pub quizzes and more!)
  • Social mobility conference with King’s College London
  • Volunteering opportunities
