Don't Make Your Life Harder, Vote Ardour! @ardour4lgbtq

Hi I’m Ardour, your current LGBTQ+ Officer! I’m re-running this year because there’s more to do and more to change. This year I want to liberate students, grow community and enhance welfare:

Liberation:

  • Conduct a report on institutional queerphobia at LSE working with the Society and Spectrum
  • Ensure greater transparency on policies regarding trans rights
  • Divestment: Lobby LSE to divest from arms + fossil fuel companies in line with the Assets in Apartheid report
  • Lobby the School to create an Estranged Student Bursary for students who find themselves estranged from family for being LGBTQ+

Community:

  • Create a Chosen Family Initiative: connecting queer students with mentors
  • Compulsory staff training so that LGBTQ+ students feel safe to express themselves in class
  • Expand the LGBTQ+ Gym Hour to provide tailored training for students
  • Continue the LGBTQ+ Support Group to help queer students on campus

Welfare:

  • Double the provision of the Gender Expression Fund
  • Collaborate with ResLife to improve LGBTQ+ student experiences in accommodation and during Welcome Week
  • Codify increasing gender neutral facilities and the right for trans students to use the facilities that match their gender identity within SU policy
  • Ensure the LGBTQ+ Society and the LGBTQ+ Officer are disclosure-trained to help students
