Student Volunteering Week 2022 is almost over, but the opportunities to get involved are endless. Volunteering can be an incredibly rewarding experience for both you and the people you are helping. Whether you want to boost your CV, help your community, or find yourself with some free time this term and want to try something new, there are lots of ways you can volunteer in London. To help get started, Advice Service has compiled some great resources below:
-
Interested in working with the elderly? AGE UK is a charity that provides various opportunities for students to provide vital support to their communities’ elders, such as campaigning, raising funds to provide necessary services, or simply being an open ear if they need to talk through the online hotline service. If interested, fill out the volunteer enquiry form here.
-
The LMA is a public research center that specialises in the history of London, caring for and providing access to the historical archives of businesses, schools, hospitals, charities, and all manner of other organisations from the London area. As a Public Services Team Volunteer, you would be responsible for welcoming researchers to the Clerkenwell site, providing advice on and access to archives, and answering enquires by post, email, fax, telephone, and online.
-
If you want to work with children, Action for Children might be the right place for you. At Action for Children, there is a variety of volunteering opportunities available, including mentoring, working with a local playgroup, supporting young asylum seekers, and providing admin support. Find opportunities in your area here.
-
The Childline service is a confidential place for children and young people to contact – over the phone or online – whatever their worry. As a volunteer, you will receive training and support as you provide counseling and support over the phone. It is important to note that as a volunteer, you may have to advise on issues such as bullying, abuse, self-harm or family relationships.

Do you love being outdoors and want to explore more of London’s parks? Then volunteer at The Royal Parks! Volunteers work in many ways, from managing habitats and surveying wildlife to recording heritage, leading walks and inspiring school children.
