As a UK registered charity itself, LSESU is unable to donate money to another charity directly, as per UK Charity Law. As such, Student Groups are therefore required to follow the guidance on this page in relation to fundraising activity.

The first option you have should you want to fundraise for a charity is to signpost to a direct link and/or QR code that sends people to that charity's donation portal directly. However, if you incur any costs relating to your fundraising activity and take this approach, you won't be able to reimburse those expenses from your Club/Society account, as they would need to be deducted from the total money raised, which would of course not be possible if students are donating directly to the designated charity via link.

The second option here would instead be to collaborate with RAG*, so that donations can be collected centrally via their Card Readers, and come into their accounts from there. This way, it would be possible to deduct your costs from the fundraising total before the remaining money can then be donated. For this approach, please contact rag@lsesu.org for more details.

*RAG are the exception to the rule mentioned above, as they're the designated fundraising arm of the LSESU.

Further Regulations

- Student Groups are not permitted to collect cash.

- The charity that you raise money for must have a UK Registered Charity Number with the Charity Commission.
