sports clubs insurance

All Paid LSESU Sports club members are covered by the Unions insurance for the duration of their club membership. 

It is essential everyone involved with your club/ society are paid members, having purchased it through this website. Anyone who hasn't purchased a membership is not covered. 

Information on what is covered can be found in the IPID UK 2023.

to make claim, please ensure the Incident Report form has been filled in and email su.sport@lse.ac.uk.

What's not covered?

Sport specific- Some sports require additional insurance/ licenses/affiliations with their NGBs. This will be communicated to you but if you are unsure please email su.sport@lse.ac.uk.

Coaches- Coaches require their own Public Liabilty insurance as outlined below. 

Trips and Tours- It is vital that each individual going on a trip has their own travel insurance as outlined here.

Coaches/ instructors

Requirements from instructors/ coaches- qualifications and documentation

Instructors/ Coaches must have the relevant qualifications and documents to lead your sessions. Below is the information LSESU require to make the relevant compliance checks before they can start coaching your sessions.

All information needs to be submitted via the Instructor/ Coach registration form.

Please note: Instructors / coaches CANNOT lead sessions/ LSESU will not be able to pay Instructors/ coaches until they are approved by the SU. This approval will be sent via email.

Coaches/Instructors/ Student leads (paid & voluntary)

Documentation	Forms
Relevant Level 2 coaching qualification from NGB (in sports where this is not possible, please email su.sport@lse.ac.uk)	Approved Instructor/ Coach registration form
DBS from the last two years (available via Gov.UK website)	Instructor/ Coach SLA
First Aid qualification (likely to have been completed in coaching qualification).
Public Liability insurance (minimum £5 million)
Reference- a one-page character reference is required to be submitted using the Coach/ Instructor Referee template

Student leads/coaches (paid & voluntary)

Student leads must have relevant coaching qualifications to lead sessions.

HOW TO RECRUIT A COACH/ INSTRUCTOR

Check the requirements for a coach/ instructor (table above)

Advertise the job opportunity/ reach out to potential coaches and instructors (we can help with this! Email su.sport@lse.ac.uk)

Once you have found a coach that meets the values and objectives of your club, let them know the documents that are needed (table above)

Coach/ Instructor fills in the Instructor/ Coach Registration form with all the relevant information

Wait for your LSESU contact to confirm your Instructor/ Coach Registration form has been approved via email

If your club is booking external facilities to train at, they must fill out and sign the External Contracts Submission Form.
