In the midst of economic, political, societal and cultural affairs shaping Korea and the world, the LSE Students' Union Korea Future Association has organized our annual forum under the title of “Korea’s Ascent to the Global Stage”.

In collaboration with UCL Korean Society Academic Division, this year’s forum aims to broaden the scope of issue areas that are of increasing concern and interest. Even though we have witnessed remarkable improvement in Korea’s global significance, there are still some issue areas in which Korea’s actions and discourse seem contentious to say that it has fully ascended as a key influential player on the global stage.

The conference will help the audience to not only gain a deeper understanding in Korea’s role and its challenges in contemporary international order, but also to build a network with fellow audience members and speakers for their further intellectual and professional pursuit.

The topics that we will cover include:

-4th Industrial Revolution: the economic and societal impacts of technological advancements

-Criminal Justice System: the extent to which Korea’s ideals of being a progressive influencer aligns with its criminal justice system

-Foreign Policy: the ever-changing relations and role Korea has with North Korea and Japan

-K-Culture: the extent of soft power from the expansion of Korean culture
