WHAT IS THE STUDENTS' UNION FUND (SUF)?

The Students' Union Fund (SUF) serves as a pivotal resource for supporting student initiatives and enhancing the LSE experience. Funded by generous contributions from LSE, the SUF allocates financial support to Clubs and Societies that apply throughout the academic year. 

Clubs and Societies can apply for the SUF multiple times during the year to fund different activities and projects. The maximum amount of funding that a club or society can receive from the SUF overall during this academic year is £2,000. 

HOW TO APPLY

If your club or society would like to apply, please fill and submit this SUF application form. Let us know about your proposed activity in detail, and consider how it addresses the 4 key criteria outlined below!

Please also attach a completed budget breakdown form to your application, to show the expected income and expenditure associated with your project. The budget is the main part of the application so take time to create this carefully.

Applications are assessed in weekly panels during during term time.

SUF CRITERIA

The SUF panel is looking to support applications that impact the LSE students' community. 

Each application will be assessed using the 4 SUF criteria.

The event must link to at least one of the criteria, but it can link to more than one if relevant:

  1. Wellbeing and Inclusion: How does this project help to reduce barriers to participation, particularly for underrepresented groups (e.g. postgraduate students, commuting students, disabled students, and students from lower-income backgrounds)? 

  2. Building Communities and Friendship: Explain how this activity will help students build meaningful connections, develop friendships, and foster a sense of belonging within the LSE community. 
  3. Improved Quality of Activities: You may wish to consider the quality of equipment or materials, enhancements to the participant experience, accessibility measures, a more professional delivery, increased engagement opportunities, or other improvements that would make the activity more impactful for attendees. 
  4. Student Skills/ Confidence Development: Explain how the project helps your fellow LSE students learn and develop skills, gain confidence, or prepare for future opportunities. You may consider leadership, academic, professional, creative, or personal skills. 

TOP TIPS BEFORE YOU APPLY

  • Be specific and honest on your budget.​
  • Apply early – funds get tighter as the year goes on, and there can be back and forth with applications.​
  • We are enhancing our scrutiny regarding the use of AI in SUF applications. We anticipate that students, societies, and clubs will diligently complete our online form without relying on AI to craft their responses. Should any doubts arise, we will thoroughly review the submissions and may reject applications accordingly.​
  • Please note that we do not fund travel or accommodation.​
  • If your application is for over £1000, you will be asked to have a meeting with the Activities and Communities Officer to discuss the application in more detail.​

🏅 LSESU COACHING & OFFICIATING DEVELOPMENT FUNDING 

Want to develop your coaching, officiating or refereeing skills?

Already involved in supporting or leading your club, session or society? Want to feel more equipped, confident or qualified?
SUF can provide funding support for selected coaching, refereeing and officiating courses to help you build skills and contribute to sport and physical activity across campus.

✅ Who can apply?
Open to any student who is:

  • Leading, assisting or supporting training sessions
  • Leading/ assisting at match days or fixtures
  • Volunteering alongside a paid coach
  • Refereeing or umpiring fixtures
  • Leading/ supporting SU sport and wellbeing sessions (Recreational Department Sport, Inclusive Sport)
  • Keen to develop their skills for future club or SU sport delivery

✅ How to apply:
Submit your usual SUF funding request via the link AND attach your Student Coach/ Instructor Agreement to be considered.
