We’re holding a referendum, giving you the opportunity to vote on the campaigning future of the Students’ Union.
What is the referendum about?
Next week on Tuesday, LSESU will be holding a referendum to vote on a new campaigning policy for the Students’ Union. The policy proposer is asking you ‘Should LSESU acknowledge the ongoing genocide in Palestine and address Islamophobia on campus?’.
On Tuesday 22nd July, we will be asking current students to vote YES or NO as to whether the SU should adopt the motion. You can read the full proposal .
When will voting take place?
Voting will take place online via the Students’ Union website from 9am until 5pm on Tuesday 22nd July. You will be able to read arguments in favour and against the proposal on the SU’s website.
If you believe the SU should not be adopting this proposal, you can take part in campaigning against this proposal. Please email to get involved.
Why is this referendum happening?
Our policy proposals are put forward by students and mandate the Union to work towards the goals of the policy until the end of the next academic year. These policies first go to a Policy Panel, a group of 30 randomly selected students who discuss and debate the policy.
The Policy Panel must reach a 75% decision in order for a policy to automatically be adopted by the SU. This policy failed to reach that threshold either way, and therefore the entire student body is now able to have their say.
Keeping our Elections Fair
In order to ensure our referenda are free and fair, all campaigners must follow the . If a member of the campaign team has not followed these rules, please fill out our
