Beyond the Classroom: Opportunities Abroad Fair

The Opportunities Abroad Fair will promote a range of personal and professional development opportunities that LSE students can get involved in outside the UK. These are primarily travel and educational opportunities, but may also encompass some work or volunteering opportunities. So far, confirmed exhibitors include:

AfriKids

AfriKids is an internationally award-winning child rights and community development organisation working in northern Ghana to alleviate child suffering and poverty. Its philosophy is to listen to local people, empower them to make the necessary changes themselves and ensure absolute sustainability. AfriKids offers rich, unique and immersive trips to Ghana for students who are looking for a memorable learning and development opportunity, grounded in the pioneering international development work of the Charity Times Awards' "International Charity of the Year" (2015). The Experience Challenge which focuses on a three day and night home stay with a local family is just one of these.

British Council

Study Work Create is British Council’s campaign to inspire young people to experience the world through travel, work and education. We offer a gateway to international opportunities and provide a constant source of inspiration and expertise about real life overseas experiences. Placements can range from two weeks to a full year and with a wide array of opportunities to study, work, research, volunteer and teach abroad, we're sure there'll be something to suit everyone.

Gotoco

Gotoco have been providing summer opportunities in China for UK students since 2011, our objective is to provide opportunities for UK students to learn about China and to do so in the most affordable way possible. Right now we are working with the British Council in their campaign to bring 80,000 British students to China by 2020. We provide a range of different summer internship options across China and unlike similar organisations we don’t charge any fee for interns to take part and offer free TEFL certification, free meals and accommodation, and a free trip to Yangshuo (Lonely Planet no.1 location in China, at the end of the project).

KickStart Ghana

KickStart Ghana is a UK and Ghanaian registered charity/NGO. Our vision is one where the people of Ghana can fulfil their potential and have every opportunity to succeed. Our mission is to enhance the sporting and educational opportunities available to the people of Ghana, by investing in sport and education through grants, financial assistance for individuals and recruiting skilled international and local volunteers to work on our projects and learn from each other. We’re passionate about the positive effects that sport and education can have on individuals and communities. We are offering educational learning trips to students who want to understand international development in the context of small NGOs working in Ghana.

LSESU AIESEC society

AIESEC is the world's largest youth-led organisation, with over 70,000 active members from 2,400 universities in 126 countries and territories. AIESEC’s Global Volunteer program gives you the chance to become a global leader through immersing yourself in a new culture, developing a vast global network whilst making real social impact in a foreign country for 6-8 weeks. Our program operates in almost 60 countries including China, Brazil and Tanzania. You can volunteer in one of five areas: Education, Culture, Social Entrepreneurship, Health and Environment. AIESEC has sent over 200,000 people abroad on our Global Volunteer Program and you could also become part of experiencing the summer of your dreams whilst making a real impact in the world!

Moving Mountains

Moving Mountains offers educational visits to Nepal and Kenya, international volunteering, medical electives and health camps, internships.

State Government of Victoria, Australia

The State Government of Victoria, Australia's representative office in London is able to provide information on work, business, investment and study opportunities in Melbourne and Victoria, Australia as well as what it is like to live a great life there!

US-UK Fulbright Commission

The US-UK Fulbright Commission is a not-for-profit organisation funded by both governments to promote educational exchange between the US and the UK. The Commission offers prestigious Awards for postgraduate study and academic research in the US, as well as an Advisory Service. As part of the EducationUSA advising network, the Advisory Service is the only official source of US study information in the UK. Our comprehensive advising website provides a step-by-step guide on the US application process. The Commission also hosts USA Grad School Day, an event that provides students with an insider’s view of how to successfully navigate the US postgraduate admissions process as well as information about the Fulbright Awards. The Fulbright Commission is the only organisation that offers scholarships for academic work in any subject, at any accredited US university. More than funding, our Awards offer scholars the opportunity to have a transformative cultural and academic experience and provide unparalleled support both during and after their Fulbright year. (Non-UK citizens are encouraged to use our advisory service in the UK and attend USA Grad School Day, but to apply for Fulbright scholarships through the Commission or Embassy in their home country.)

LSE Careers is here to help you through the careers maze, providing a comprehensive careers guidance service and employment services for students seeking information on graduate employment and further study in the UK and internationally.

LSE Volunteer Centre

We are here to help LSE students find a volunteering placement at a charity or not-for-profit organisation during your time studying at LSE. We can offer a range of volunteering opportunities for students to get involved in whether they have one hour or two days a week to spare. We can offer a wealth of advice on volunteering in London and internationally and how you can make the best use of your opportunities to make a difference in the world and help gain new skills for your future careers.

LSE-PKU Summer School (Peking)

The LSE-PKU Summer School is a joint initiative which forms part of a collaboration between LSE and Peking University (PKU). The summer school provides students of all levels (undergraduate, Masters and PhD) - and professionals - from around the world with a unique opportunity to learn about China from within China, but with a truly international perspective. In 2015, the LSE-PKU Summer School attracted 283 participants from more than 50 countries across the globe. Participants take one of fifteen intensive courses over two weeks in August in areas such as business, development, economics, finance, government international relations, law, management, social policy or statistics, and each course is taught by leading faculty from LSE or PKU in the dynamic city of Beijing. In 2016, we also have up to fifteen travel bursaries of £500 each for LSE students who wish to attend the LSE-PKU Summer School (the early bird and bursary deadline is 31st March 2016, and all other applications are due by 15th June 2016).

LSE-UCT Summer School (Cape Town)

The LSE-UCT July Summer School is a joint initiative which forms part of a collaboration between LSE and the University of Cape Town (UCT). The July school provides students of all levels (undergraduate, Masters and PhD) - and professionals - from around the world with a unique opportunity to learn about Africa from within Africa, but with a truly international perspective. In 2015, the LSE-UCT July School attracted 105 participants from almost 40 countries across the globe. Participants take one of nine intensive courses over two weeks in June/July in areas such as development, economics, international relations, law, management, social policy or urban development, and each course is taught by leading faculty from LSE or UCT in the beautiful city of Cape Town, close to Table Mountain. In 2016, we also have up to fifteen travel bursaries of £500 each for LSE students who wish to attend the LSE-UCT July School (the early bird and bursary deadline is 31st March 2016, and all other applications are due by 15th May 2016).
