Spain produces some of the most competitively priced wine anywhere in the world. Its wines have, for centuries, been aged in generous amounts of new American oak – a medium that has provided them with seductive aromas of sweet vanilla, coconut, and dill, and a method of production that has underlain their popularity and success.

However, as consumers look towards ever-more distinctive wine, this particular way of making wine is falling out of fashion – and fast. Spain’s extraordinary reliance on just two grape varietals is, moreover, putting it out of step in a word where viticultural diversity is becoming the key to success.

Spain is, nonetheless, the birthplace of such prolific varietals as Garnacha Tinta (Grenache Noir), Monastrell (Mourvedre) and Carinena (Carignan), and it is only a matter of time before these extraordinary grapes reclaim their historic lands.

The upcoming tasting presents the opportunity to try Spain’s most notorious grape (Tempranillo) alongside six other increasingly fashionable and less oak-dependant indigenous varietals (Verdejo, Albarino, Macabeo, Garnacha Tinta, Monastrell, and Carinena) from some of the most exciting and historic producers in the Spanish-speaking world.

The first six wines will be from Spain, and the last from a Chilean region that is fast-becoming the New World’s answer to Priorat. Below is a list of all the delicious wines that will be on show:
