About us

The LSESU ASEAN Society brings together LSE students from all across the ASEAN member states - come to make friends, discuss current issues, and have fun! We celebrate the very best things about ASEAN, aiming to enrich the way you engage with and debate about the issues surrounding the region. Due to our numerous successful projects, we were awarded as the Best New Society in 2016 by the LSE Student Union! We have also attained the Gold STAR Awards 2021!

The society was founded on a set of aims:

  1. Bring together people from the ASEAN community; as well as others interested in ASEAN related issues, to promote better engagement and foster a greater sense of affinity to the region;
  2. Promote the culture within ASEAN and ASEAN member states among members and the public;
  3. Conduct events, activities, projects and programs related to the promotion of ASEAN and the ASEAN member states;
  4. Foster an academic learning environment focused on research and intellectual debate of issues related to the people, politics, trade, economics, environment, culture, and other aspects concerning ASEAN and the ASEAN member states;
  5. Facilitate the exchange of ideas to stimulate intellectual curiosity and debate on ASEAN, the ASEAN member states and its concerns.

Those who have purchased membership will have access to various events held by the society, ranging from speaker events and panels to subsidised trips and socials. In addition, the LSESU ASEAN Society will produce creative newsletters regularly throughout the academic year. Future newsletters will only be available for official members of the LSESU ASEAN Society who have paid the membership fee.

Events, Activities and Initiatives

  • A freshers WhatsApp group jointly run by the LSESU ASEAN Society, LSESU Singapore Society, LSESU Indonesian Society, LSESU Thai Society and the LSESU Malaysian Society, bringing together incoming students from all over Southeast Asia to a platform where they can interact and get to know each other!
