Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)

Introduction

LSESU ASEAN Society welcomes all who want to talk about anything in Southeast Asia, from politics to the environment.

As a young and fast-growing society, we are constantly trying new activities and creating better content for our members. Check out what we've been up to lately!

ASEAN Youth Summit 2020

The ASEAN Youth Summit is a leading student forum dedicated to understanding Southeast Asia. In our inaugural year, we have attracted over 120 participants and invited distinguished speakers and guests from across government, industry, civil society, and academia to speak on Start-Up Technology, Educational Inequality, and Sustainable Finance. See our Facebook page for more details.

Academic lectures

We host academic lectures every year on a wide range of issues in Southeast Asia (pictured here is a lecture by Professor John Sidel on populist challenges to oligarchical democracy in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand). Follow our latest events on Facebook.

Cultural exchanges

Milo and hot kaya toast was how we kickstart the 2019/2020 academic year as a society! This year, we organised a Thai language/culture session (our lovely hosts pictured above), a lunch with the Vietnamese Society, and an exclusive curator's tour of the Sir Stamford Raffles exhibition at the British Museum.

Opinion articles/Creative content

Have something to say? An area in Southeast Asia that you want to research on? We provide the platform for members to publish original content - including commentaries, travel guides, and video interviews with LSE students on their home country.
