About us

Welcome to LSESU Taekwondo!

We take pride on our inclusive and tightly knit community. From complete beginners to national champions, freshers to alumni, undergraduates to postgraduates. No matter your background, we’ll keep you entertained, so make sure you don’t miss out on the fun!

If you’re looking to stay involved, connected, and making the most out of your time here at LSE, then there is no better place to get you started. This is your opportunity to push yourself, reach your limits and find a family that is truly going to support you.

We are lucky to have two experienced and passionate coaches whom will join you on your training journey. Kian has been with LSESU Taekwondo since the late 1990s. He holds the rank of 6th Dan Taekwondo, 3rd Dan Hapkido, has an extensive knowledge of a wide variety of martial arts, and is a keen instructor on self-defence. Helmut, a former alumni, has been with the club since 2011. He’s an enthusiast for sparring and padwork, and will show no hesitation (nor mercy) when it comes to demonstrating his techniques and sharing his earnest training regime.

This is in addition to our team players whom will always be willing to lend you a helping hand to improve your abilities and build up your confidence. There are numerous opportunities for you to train, shape up, play casually and share some fun, too. So really, whatever you’re looking for, we probably got you covered. *wink*

In addition to our regular training sessions, we have three formal competitions spread across the year plus any friendly matches we strike up against other unis. Moreover, our social activities in the past have involved many team dinners, outings, pizza nights, Sway nights and karaoke. We are planning more exciting socials this year, so stay tuned!

It is important for us to find individuals who are motivated, dedicated, and have a knack for exploring something that is truly unique. If any of this resonates with you, then what’s the hesitation for? It’s the perfect opportunity for you to shake-off some steam and build friendships that will last you a lifetime. We promise.

Looking forward to welcoming you into the family!!!

Membership

Our standard membership will allow you to partake in our training sessions, run three times each week by our qualified coaches. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to participate in British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions, with the anticipated finale allowing you way into joining nationals! This is in addition to other informal matches played against other London universities and self-defence workshops organised throughout the year. If you so wish, we can even help you set-up your own session/ event! Our associate membership, exclusive to staff and alumni, can also tap into our trainings at any time at their choosing!

All necessary training equipment is included during sessions. Additional club kit is subsidised by the club, and you will be able to benefit from our subsidies to competitions and trips within and outside of London.

Most importantly, this is your opportunity to meet new people and be part of a dynamic family. You are most welcome to join us at any point throughout the year. With your first two sessions free, you can get in touch with us at any time and simply give-it-a-go!
