BENNETT SHERR

Sherr-ing Your Voice, Sherr for Postgraduate Students' Officer!

Hey Y’all!

I'm Bennett Sherr and I'm studying International Migration and Public Policy! When I heard of the opportunity to represent the Postgraduate community on the LSESU, I immediately wanted to jump at the opportunity. I became interested in peer advocacy in the summer of 2020 while working as a camp counselor during the COVID pandemic. It became clear to myself and my fellow counselors that there were large issues of pay equity, COVID safety, and illegal contracts which were causing many to quit. Drawing on my background in labor relations, I launched a concerted action campaign and negotiated on behalf of the counselors in a collective bargaining negotiation which saw many of these issues addressed. This saved the jobs of over 20 counselors.

I will bring this same drive to representing the over 6000 postgraduates who call this University home. I plan to:

  1. Host weekly office hours and meetings
  2. Work with the university to fix its antiquated class registration system
  3. Prioritize sustainability and a greener LSE. This includes advocating for a commitment to donating one tree for every degree the University awards
  4. Increase postgraduate involvement with the LSESU through fun and accessible events like pub town halls
