Making the PhD journey more equitable, inclusive, and pandemic-adapted

ABOUT ME

I’m Sarah, a 2nd year PhD student at the European Institute, researching the role of whiteness in German primary schooling.

EXPERIENCE

  • Co-authored an interview-based report on COVID-19’s impact on LSE PhD students; currently working with the PhD Academy to share the findings and implement our recommendations
  • Education Committee PhD representative 
  • Cohort student representative 
  • Member of the departmental Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee

POLICIES

  • Making the LSE PhD experience more equitable and inclusive
    • equalising LSE Studentship conditions
    • supporting vulnerable and marginalised students (including researchers with caring responsibilities, externally funded students), assessing their needs, and providing tailored programming (workshops, peer networks, etc.)
  • Working with the PhD Academy to organise events addressing the methodological and professional challenges raised by COVID-19 and to provide up-to-date information on fieldwork return/archive access
  • Lobbying that PhD students' campus access is prioritised and campaigning for home office expenditure funding
